CAREER INFORMATION
Mrs. Bennett
Junior Job Shadow Day: On January 30th, 2015 all juniors will have an opportunity to Job Shadow a business in a career field they are interested in! This experience will provide a thought provoking day for students allowing them to observe someone in a chosen career field and ask questions about what it takes to be a success! Who can participate? All juniors. What is it? A Job Shadow is a worksite experience during which a student spends time observing daily activities and asking questions about the job and industry. When is it? January 30, 2015 (Please note this is a change from the original date on the school calendar). Where is it? Students select the location. This optional experience will assist students when making important career related decisions! Students can participate in a Job Shadow or attend the regularly scheduled school day. Please see Mrs. Bennett or your counselor for more information.
Career Exploration Events
Regional Job Shadow Day: On February 19th, 2015 Shepard High School will participate in the Moraine Area Career System Regional Job Shadow Day. This year students will have the opportunity to experience the daily activities associated with a variety of careers at the following locations: Morgan Li Manufacturing, SEASPAR Special Parks and Recreation, Accelerated Physical Therapy, Department of Homeland Security, ArcelorMittal-Steel Manufacturing, Oak Lawn Police Department, Florida Plastics International, Sandbox Childcare, Independence Junior High, and Midway Hotel Complex, Joliet Slammers, and Little Company of Mary Hospital. This event explores the many careers that are available in these industries.
Space is very limited and interested students should see Mrs. Bennett in counseling to sign up.
Health Care Career Fair: The annual Heath Care Career Fair is scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2015 at Moraine Valley Community College. Students will have the opportunity to learn about a career pathway in the following health care professions: Nursing/Basic Nurse Assistant/Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Medical Services/Fire Science/Emergency Room Doctor/Physical Therapist/Recreation Therapy and management/Optometry/Gerontology/Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant/Respiratory Therapy/Sleep Technology.
Representatives in each of these fields will speak with students about educational requirements and job opportunities in these career areas.
Trades Expo: On Tuesday, March 10, 2015 students will have an opportunity to attend the Trades Expo in Chicago. Representatives from a variety of trades will speak with students about careers in these exciting fields and provide hands on experiences. This new and unique event is designed to give students the most current information about what is necessary to get started on this career pathway.
